What Technical Barriers in Intelligent Manufacturing Will Festo's "Seamless Automation" Concept Break Through?
July 14, 2026
At Hannover Messe 2026 in Germany, Festo presented its latest technological achievements in intelligent manufacturing and sustainable development at Booth C17, Hall 13, under the core theme "Seamless Automation". As an annual benchmark event in the global industrial automation field, Hannover Messe gathers cutting-edge technologies and trends of the global manufacturing industry. The "Seamless Automation" concept proposed by Festo aims to break down barriers between different technical routes and systems, providing customers with integrated solutions from components to systems and from hardware to software. The concept is implemented in three dimensions: seamless product portfolio, seamless connectivity and seamless digital experience.
In terms of seamless product portfolio and connectivity, Festo's open system architecture realizes the deep integration of pneumatic technology, electric drive technology, sensors, software and artificial intelligence technology, breaking the technical barrier of mutual independence between pneumatics and electric drives in traditional automation systems. Through standardized communication protocols and unified engineering tools, components of different technical routes can achieve smooth interoperability, forming a continuous data flow from individual actuators to upper-level control systems, while being fully compatible with equipment and systems from third-party suppliers. This architecture greatly reduces the commissioning cost and time of production line integration. Customers can flexibly combine pneumatic and electric drive solutions according to working condition requirements without worrying about system compatibility, truly realizing "on-demand selection and seamless collaboration".
In terms of cutting-edge technology exploration, Festo highlighted breakthrough achievements in life science automation. Among them, the automated CAR-T cell therapy processing platform developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IPA attracted much attention. The platform can realize fully automatic operation of key processes such as cell modification, culture and packaging, greatly shortening the production cycle of personalized cancer treatment, while reducing the contamination risk and cost fluctuation caused by manual operations. In addition, Festo also demonstrated automated organ-on-a-chip preparation technology, providing more efficient in vitro testing solutions for new drug research and development. Frank Notz, Chief Sales Officer of Festo Group, stated that "Seamless Automation" is not only the integration of technologies, but also aims to help customers cope with increasingly complex production challenges and maintain competitiveness in the rapidly changing market.
